SKETCH: Calibration

Calibration

To ensure that the distance between the nozzle and build surface is correct, your MakerBot Sketch will run the Calibration routine.  The calibration distance can cause significant print issues such as material failing to extrude or the model becoming detached from the build surface.
Run the Calibration routine at any point by navigating to
"Settings" --> "Utilities" --> "Calibration" on the touchscreen.

The extruder will move to the side before returning to the middle and lowering it to the build surface. This is the homing process where the extruder determines its position in the build area.

Insert the Quick Start Guide that came with your printer between the nozzle and build surface.
If you do not have the Quick Start Guide available, you can use a piece of paper with a similar thickness (.25mm).

You are looking for the nozzle to be putting the same amount of pressure on the the paper as a ball point pen would apply to a piece of paper when writing. You should be able to feel some pressure from the nozzle, but you can still move the paper.

If the nozzle is too close (can not move the paper) use the up arrow to raise it. If the nozzle is too far (can not feel the paper on the nozzle) use the down arrow to lower it.

Once the nozzle is at the right height, hit "Next" to proceed.
